The Orphan Train

The Orphan Train: A Forgotten Chapter of History

Join Pam Ekholm, Archives Assistant for the State Historical Society, for a compelling presentation on the story of the Orphan Train. June 3rd, 6pm at the Hurley Library.

This little-discussed period in history is rarely covered in textbooks, yet it was an emotional and dramatic time for thousands of children from New York City. The Orphan Train movement was one of the earliest efforts that helped shape today’s foster care and adoption systems.

Through her research, Pam discovered a surprising local connection—the Orphan Train made its way to Northern Wisconsin.
